Couple of years from now, you might forget ,for how much you swiped your credit card for hospitalisation expenditure at Apollo, but I am sure you will cherish till eternity the memory of having saved your wife’s life or the life you get to live with the newborn.
You wont remember how many dollars you shelled out for your honeymoon or for the candlelight dinner at 31st Floor, but to the last breath you will hold dear the experiences of the bliss of togetherness.
You will never take account of the total cost of your education, but for a lifetime you will recall memories of the mirthful hostel and college days, for instance, the mass bunks, midnight 2 minute maggi time, over the fence love letters, cultural practice sessions, salsa dancing for annual day celebs, seniors ragging experiences, exam results and report card tensions, flying paper rockets during theory classes, endless complaints on hostel food, late night security bribing after movie time and so on and so forth.
I just have to say that Experience has memory. Does money has memory? A big NO.
Good times and bad times, times of poverty and times of prosperity, times when future looked secure and times when you didn’t know from where tomorrow would come from…life has been in one way or another a roller coaster ride for everyone. Beyond all that abundance and beyond all that deprivation, what remains is the memory of experiences.
Sometimes your wallet was full…sometimes your pocket was empty. There was enough but still you had reasons to frown. There wasn’t enough but still you had reasons to smile. All in all, life filled you with experiences to create a history of your own self, and you alone can remember them all.
The first time I balanced myself on my cycle without support…..
The first time I got punched by a bully and I did not fight back as violence was wrong…(ha ha ha, that’s not my stand now though)….
The first time I scared a dog in the park…( there has not been a second time for this one)
The fact that I got confused with” Have you any wool” and “ How do you do” of baba black sheep rhyme…..
My first papadi chaat…My beautiful and gorgeous parrots and sharks…my ever chirping bells and eddy…..
The only time I got slapped by a eunuch in Nugambakkam high road as I didn’t give him more than 20 bugs….
The first cry…the first steps…the first word….the first kiss…all of your child…..
The first gift you got your parents and the first gift your daughter gave you….
The happiness I experienced when my husband was rated high at Samsung India….
The first award…the first appreciation…your first receipe….the first stage performance…your first love…
And the list is endless….Experiences with timeless memory….
There is no denying that anything material costs money. But the fact remains that eventually the cost of experience will be forgotten, but the expereince never.
What if there is an economic recession? Let it be, but let there not be a recession to the quality of your life. You can still take your parents if not on a pilgrimage, at least to the local temple. You can still paly with your children, if not on an international holiday, at least in a local park. Does it cost money to lie down or take loved one onto your lap?
Time will pass… the economy will revive… currecny will soon be current again…and in all this…I don’t want you to look back and realise you did nothing but wallow in gloom…Recession can make you lose out on money. Let it not make you lose out on experiences.
If you are not happy with what you have, no matter how much more money you have, you will still not be happy. Tell your self : How I feel has nothing to do with how much I have.
